Ultimate Video Optimization Guide | NordicScreen HandBrake Tutorial

General Video Guide

Below you'll find an installation and usage guide for optimizing and playing videos through various types of players, including external and built-in options. This guide includes recommendations for video sizes, using the conversion tool HandBrake, and considerations to ensure the best video experience.

Understanding Video Playback

Video playback is a complex process affected by several critical factors:

  1. Video Size: The size of the video directly influences the efficiency and quality of playback.
  2. Player Type: The type of player (external or built-in) plays a crucial role.
  3. Player Capacity: How powerful the player is, and how many elements it can simultaneously process.

Optimizing Video for the Web

To ensure smooth and effective video playback on the web, it is recommended to convert and optimize all videos:
  1. Maximum File Size: Up to 990 MB for external players like Windows, and up to 100 MB for built-in players in LG and Sony screens.
  2. Conversion Tool: Use HandBrake, recommended by NordicScreen, for conversion and optimization. HandBrake can be downloaded here: HandBrake

Guide to Using HandBrake

  1. Download and Installation.
    1. Follow the installation instructions to install the program on your computer.
  2. Open HandBrake and import the video you want to convert. Either by "drag and drop" method, or by pressing the folder icon on the left.

    1. Select what preset you want to use, we recommed to not use higher resolution then 1080p to get the smoothest videoplayback.
    2. It is also important to select the "Web Optimized" setting within HandBrake, this ensures that the video gets compressed as much as possible, and helps with playback online.
    3. If you want to change the save directory, do so by clicking the "Browse" button in the right bottom corner, and select where HandBrake should save the video.

  3. If your video is in a custom resolution, it is important to change the settings in the "Dimensions" tab.
    1. Under “Resolution and Scaling”:
      1. Set “Resolution Limit” to “Custom”.
      2. Specify “Maximum Size” as the maximum size of your video (if not set automatically).
      3. Set “Anamorphic” to “Automatic”.
      4. Finally, deselect “Optimal Size” and enter the correct size of your video under “Scaled Size”.

  4. When finished with the settings of HandBrake, press the "Start Encode" button on the top of the screen.

  5. We always recommend watching the video locally, on your PC, to ensure nothing went wrong doing the encoding. Once you have confirmed the video is playing correct, upload it to Q-Play media library.
