Optimize Content Delivery in Q-Play Using Metadata

How to use Metadata in Q-Play

Metadata is accessible by clicking your name in the top right corner and selecting Metadata from the dropdown menu. Metadata is a way to control which content is displayed on specific players. It works as a match-all system — all metadata tags assigned to a player must match the tags on a slide for that slide to be shown on that player.
A practical example: you have a playlist with three slides — one for Denmark, one for Sweden, and one for Norway. By tagging each slide with the relevant country metadata and tagging each player with its corresponding country, each player will only show the slide that matches its tags.

How Metadata Works

Metadata is built around key-value pairs. You create a metadata entry with a unique key — for example "countries" — and define a set of value options such as dk, sve, and nor. You then assign one or more of these values to a player and to individual slides in a presentation or playlist. When the player plays the presentation, it will only show the slides whose metadata values match its own.
Because metadata is match-all, a player must match every metadata tag on a slide for that slide to be shown. If a slide has no metadata assigned, it will show on all players.

Creating a Metadata Entry

  1. Click your name in the top right corner and select Metadata from the dropdown menu.
  2. Click New Metadata in the top right.
  3. Enter a Meta Key — this is the unique identifier for this metadata entry, for example "countries".
  4. Optionally add a description.
  5. Add key-value pairs by clicking Add Pair. Each pair has a key and a value — for example key "dkn" and value "dk".
  6. Click Create.

Assigning Metadata to a Player

  1. Go to Players and open the player you want to tag.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Metadata section and click Manage.
  4. Assign the relevant metadata values to the player.
  5. Click Save.

Assigning Metadata to a Slide

  1. Open the presentation or playlist in the editor.
  2. Click on the slide you want to tag to select it.
  3. In the Slide settings panel on the right, open the Metadata section.
  4. Assign the relevant metadata values to the slide.
Only players whose metadata matches the slide's metadata will display that slide.
