Integrating Excel Sharepoint Document in Q-Play

Introduction

This guide will show you how to integrate an Excel file stored in Microsoft SharePoint into Q-Play, so you can pull data directly from the Excel file into your presentation and display it on a screen.


The guide is divided into two main sections:
  1. Setting up the SharePoint Excel Integration

  2. Using the integration in the DesignTool

Before you start the integration process, make sure have a user in ur SharePoint account with no (MFA) - Check our guide here: 

Part 1: Setting up the SharePoint Excel Integration

1. Go to Integrations

  • In the left-hand menu of Q-Play, click on “Integrations”.


2. Create a new integration

  • Click the “New Integration” button in the top right corner.


3. Select Microsoft SharePoint

  • From the list of available integrations, select “Excel SharePoint - Online Document”.


4. Name your integration

  • Enter a descriptive name for the integration so you can easily identify it later.

  • Note: In the “Account name” field, enter the name from your SharePoint URL.
    Example: From https://nordicscreen.sharepoint.com, the Account Name is nordicscreen.


5. Log in to your SharePoint account

  • Click “Login” and enter your SharePoint credentials to allow Q-Play access.
    → Your login credentials are encrypted and securely stored in the backend.


6. Go to Settings

  • Click on “Settings” in the integration panel.


7. Add a script

  • Under “Scheduled Scripts”, click the “+” button to add a new script.


8. Select script type

  • In the “Script” dropdown, select Report”.



9. Fill out script details

  • Enter:

    • Name: A name for the script

    • Refresh: How often the Excel report should refresh (e.g., hourly, daily)


10. Enter the Excel file URL

  • In the “URL” field, paste the full URL of your Excel file in SharePoint.


  • Enter the name of the Excel Sheet "TAB"


11. Save the integration

  • Click “Save” to store the integration.


12. Check integration status

  • Click “Integration Status”.

  • Wait a few minutes for the integration to be fully initialized.


13. Test the integration

  • In the integration status view, click the “Play” button to test loading the Excel file.


14. Troubleshoot if needed

  • If the test shows an error:

    • Click the document icon (marked in red).

Use “Script Logs” to view details of what happened or where an error occurred.

Part 2: Using SharePoint Excel in the DesignTool

1. Open the DesignTool

  • In the left-hand menu, click on “DesignTool”.



2. Select or app on presentation

  • Click on the appp you want to use on the presentation



3. Add SharePoint Excel as a data source


  • In your presentation, click on “Data Sources”.

  • Select the SharePoint Excel integration you created earlier.

  • Select the worksheet and data range in the Excel file you want to display.


4. Publish

  • Click “Publish” to publish the presentation to your screen.

👉 Problem: How do I find my Account Name?
Solution: Your Account Name is the part of your SharePoint URL immediately after https://.
Example:
https://nordicscreen.sharepoint.com/sites → Account Name = nordicscreen.


👉 Problem: The integration fails
Solution:

  • Check “Script Logs” under the integration for detailed error messages.

  • Use the “Highlight” feature to pinpoint where the error occurred.


👉 Problem: Can I pull data from multiple Excel files in one integration?
Solution: Yes! Simply add more scripts under “Scheduled Scripts”.


👉 Problem: How are my login credentials secured?
Solution: All credentials are encrypted and stored securely in Q-Play’s backend.


👉 Problem: How do I update the content on the screen?
Solution: The content will update automatically once you publish the presentation linked to a screen.
