Connect IOT Product to network

Connect IOT Product to network

This guide describes how to set up IOT products for internet connectivity.

To complete the setup, you will need the following:
  1. A computer with Wi-Fi access.
  2. The IOT product to be set up.

Safety:

Ensure the device is securely mounted and inaccessible to unauthorized persons. If in doubt, contact an electrician.

1. Unpack the IOT products and connect the device to power. Now turn on the power.
1.1 If the device supports wired internet, this option can be used. If this option is chosen, the rest of the guide can be skipped.

For the setup, the following information is required; these details can be found on the label on the device and on the package:
DeviceID:
SN:
Smart Wi-Fi and Bluetooth plug type F with device ID and serial number, includes power consumption monitoring feature.Example of an IOT product with "DeviceID" and "SN" labeled.

2. On a computer in the immediate vicinity of the powered IOT product, go to "WIFI" and press the Wi-Fi network named as described below:

The first part of the SSID can vary from product to product. Find the Wi-Fi network where the DeviceID matches the last part of the network's name
Example of a Wi-Fi name (SSID): ShellyPlusPlugS-30c6f78a67e8

It is important that the part in bold matches the DeviceID on the device.

Password: The Wi-Fi network's password is the device's "SN", which can be found on the device.
If the password does not work, just wait 5 minutes. The device needs to fully start up before it can be used.

NB. Each device has a unique network, so make sure to check that the DeviceID matches the specific device you wish to set up.

3. Now open a browser and type "192.168.33.1" in the search bar. A page like the one below should now be displayed:
3.1. Interface of a NordicScreen PowerPlug management system showing protections for voltage, power, and current with a 'Last triggered by' event log.
Interface of a NordicScreen PowerPlug management system showing protections for voltage, power, and current with a 'Last triggered by' event log.

NB. If the above page cannot be displayed, it may be because the computer is not connected to the mentioned network in step 2. It may be necessary to forget other networks that are in immediate proximity.

4. Now go to "Settings" and then select "WIFI"
Dashboard of PlusPlugs management system for NordicScreen PowerPlug with options for settings, scripts, diagnostics, and activity logs.
PlusPlugs network settings interface with options for Access Point, WiFi, Bluetooth, and various connectivity settings including Cloud, MQTT, and device settings.

IMPORTANT. Do not make any changes to the device other than the WIFI as per this guide. Other settings and changes can cause the device to malfunction.

5. Now select the desired Wi-Fi network, enter the network's password, and then press "Save Settings"
Configuration interface for PlusPlugs WiFi settings showing options for enabling the network, manual SSID entry, password protection, network selection dropdown, and password input field.

NB. It is important that the network is available at the physical location where the device is to be mounted.

6. The device is connected to the network when the network name appears next to the "Connected At:" point.

NB.
  1. Avoid changing settings other than Wi-Fi on the device.
  2. Changing other settings will disconnect the device from the NordicScreen system and will require reconfiguration of the device. This may incur additional charges.
  3. Remember to keep the information described in step 1 protected from unauthorized access, as they provide access to the device.
