Displaying Power BI content in the Q-Play app

This guide covers the Power BI-specific steps for adding a report or dashboard to a slide. It assumes you already know how to navigate the Q-Play app and add apps to a slide — for general app usage, see our main app guide.

Before you start: You'll need a working Power BI Enterprise integration with at least one job set up. See our Power BI Enterprise integration guide if you haven't done this yet.

Step 1: Add the Power BI Enterprise app

From the Apps panel, click Power BI Enterprise to add it to your slide.

Step 2: Choose a Template

With the app selected, open the Template dropdown in the properties panel on the right. This determines what kind of Power BI content the app displays, and should match the Job Type you set up in the integration:

  • Power BI - Embedded Dashboard — for a Dashboard job.
  • Power BI - Embedded Report — for a Report job.
  • Power BI - Screenshot Dashboard — for a Dashboard Screenshot job.
  • Power BI - Screenshot Report — for a Report Screenshot job.

Step 3: Choose your data source

Once a Template is selected, a Data sources section appears with two dropdowns:

  • Integration — which Power BI Enterprise integration to pull from.
  • Script — which job (report/dashboard) from that integration to display.

If you only have one integration with one job set up, both fields are filled in automatically. If you have multiple integrations or jobs, you'll need to pick the right ones from each dropdown.

Step 4: Template settings

These settings are specific to the Template you chose in Step 2 — for example, an Embedded Report has different settings available than a Screenshot Dashboard.

For Embedded Report, the available settings are:

  • Page number — which page of the report to display.
  • Hide pages — hides the page-tabs bar at the bottom of the report (the row of tabs like "Side 1" you'd otherwise see).
  • Hide filters — hides the filter pane on the side of the report.

Step 5: App Settings

Unlike Template settings, App Settings stay the same no matter which Template you've chosen.

  • Refresh time — how often the app re-fetches the latest data from the integration. This controls how up-to-date the embedded content stays once it's on screen.
  • Important: If Refresh time is set to Never, the app won't pick up any new data from the integration — this includes new screenshots (for Screenshot templates) or new embed URLs/tokens (for Embedded templates). Make sure to set a refresh interval so your content actually stays up to date, rather than leaving this on Never.

  • Mode — either Normal or Cropped. Use Cropped to adjust which part of the view is visible.

Using Cropped mode

When Mode is set to Cropped, three extra fields appear:

  • Position X / Position Y — shifts the view horizontally/vertically.
  • Zoom — zooms the view in or out.

The app itself stays the same size on your slide — Cropped mode just shifts and zooms what's shown inside that area.

That's it — once your Template, data source, and settings are configured, the report or dashboard will display on your slide.
