Samsung E-Paper install guide

What is an E-Paper

The Samsung Color E-Paper display is an ultra-low-power digital signage screen designed to show full-color content with a paper-like appearance.
It uses reflective e-paper technology, allowing images to remain visible with minimal power consumption and no backlight.

How to install Q-Play

Download the app for your phone - scan the QR-code on the E-Paper device if you dont already have it installed, or search for it in your phones app store: Samsung E-Paper.
Follow instructions in the app, to get started

Settings

  1. First time setting up a device.
  2. Choose Manuel setup.


  3. Content source: Custom.
  4. Type the url to download Q-Play app: https://samsung-epaper.q-play.io


  5. Setup a pin for the device.
  6. Press the Install button right next to the URL, this will install Q-Play on the device.


  7. If the device doesnt turn on after installing Q-Play, you will have to manually press the power button again. After it is turned on, Q-Play will automatically start.
  8. We dont recommend setting your device to deep sleep mode, as this will cause the device to ignore wake-up commands.

When done setting up the first device. You can save the preset, that will contain screen orientation, download link for Q-Play, Wi-fi settings and so forth. Making it easier to set up other devices.
To save the settings, open the device in the app, press the 3 dots in the top right corner, and press the save preset button.
In the first step of the install, you can then choose "preset" instead of manuel install.

To factory reset the E-Paper

  1. If the device is in sleep mode, turn it on by pressing the power button.
  2. Press and hold down the back- and bluetooth button, until the LED starts to blink - it takes around 20-30 seconds before start the resetting process. Then release the buttons and the device will factory reset.
  3. Once its done, the device will turn off, so press the power button to turn it back on.

Our recommendations for content

An E-Paper device isnt meant for dynamic content. It cant display videoes, or other content where it needs to update its display often.
We therefor recommend only using 1 design, with 1 active slide. No moving content such as videoes, GIFs, time or other content that needs to update frequently.
  1. Use mostly static content such as posters, menus, schedules, wayfinding, promotions, pricing, or informational signage.
  2. Keep layouts clean and high-contrast with large text and simple graphics for the best readability.
  3. Avoid dynamic or rapidly changing content such as video, animations, live dashboards, or frequently refreshing widgets, as e-paper is optimized for low-power static imagery rather than motion.
  4. Avoid gradients, heavily mixed colors, or highly saturated artwork, as color e-paper technology may render blended tones less accurately than traditional LCD or OLED displays.
