How to install Q-Play on a Hisense signage display

This guide shows you how to install Q-Play on a Hisense signage display using a USB stick.

You will also set up the display so it does not turn off by itself and shows the correct time. Then you choose how the display should be used: either only for Q-Play, with Q-Play opening automatically (step 4), or also for other things, with the display switching between Q-Play and an external input (step 5).

1. Download the installation file

  1. Download Q-Play for Android. See How to download Q-Play for how to find and download the installation file.
  2. Copy the file to a USB stick. Then plug the USB stick into your Hisense display.

2. Set up the Hisense display

Set up the display before you install Q-Play.

  1. Close the USB prompt. When you plug in the USB stick, the display asks to open it. Close the prompt for now.
  2. Go to "Setting". The settings open on the "Network" tab.
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi (optional). If the display uses Wi-Fi, open the Wi-Fi setting, turn Wi-Fi on, and connect to your network.
  4. Turn off standby. Go to the "Switch on/off" tab and set both "No signal standby" and "No operation standby" to "Close". This keeps the display from suddenly turning off.
  5. Check the time zone. Go to the "System" tab and make sure "Country selection/Time zone" matches your location. If it is wrong, some apps may show the wrong time, and the on/off timer (black screen) may not follow the configured hours.

3. Install Q-Play

  1. Open the USB stick. Press back on the remote to close the settings. Then go to "Source" and open the USB.
  2. Open the "Installation package" folder. In the file menu, choose your USB drive on the left and open the "Installation package" folder.
  3. Install Q-Play. Select the Q-Play installation file and follow the instructions on the screen.

Install Q-Play on Hisense

  1. Start Q-Play. Press back on the remote until you are on the home screen. Go to "All apps", find Q-Play and select it.

Q-Play is now installed and running on your Hisense display. Next, follow step 4 or step 5, depending on how the display will be used.

4. Make Q-Play open automatically

Use this setting if the display should only show Q-Play. Q-Play then starts automatically when the display turns on, and opens whenever someone presses Home on the remote.

OBS: With this setting, the display can only be used for Q-Play. If you also want to use it for other things, like showing a laptop over HDMI in a meeting room, skip this step and follow step 5 instead.

  1. Go to "Setting" and find "Signal management".
  2. Open "Homepage Settings".
  3. Choose "Q-Play Player".

5. Switch automatically to an external input (optional)

Use this setup instead of step 4 if you also use the display for other things. The display switches to an external input when one is connected, and starts Q-Play again when it is disconnected.

  1. Go to "Setting" and find "Signal management".
  2. Turn off "Auto switch source". Then open the "Failover" settings.
  3. Turn on Failover. This lets the display switch between two channels.
  4. Choose the channels. Set "Main channel" to your preferred external input and "Standby channel" to "Q-Play Player".

Why does my display turn off by itself?

Check that "No signal standby" and "No operation standby" are both set to "Close" under "Switch on/off".

Why does the on/off timer not follow my hours?

The time zone is probably wrong. Check "Country selection/Time zone" under the "System" tab.

How do I make Q-Play start automatically?

Set "Homepage Settings" to "Q-Play Player" as described in step 4. Only do this if the display should only be used for Q-Play.

Where do I find Q-Play after installation?

If you followed step 4, press Home on the remote. Otherwise, go to the home screen, open "All apps" and select Q-Play.

Can I use the display for other things than Q-Play?
